Getting started

What does Free include?

One personalized dinner a week (Split Plates included), the full Gastroque Library, up to 2 diners, a basic grocery list, Cook Mode and one swap a week. No card, no time limit.

How much time does it take each night?

You set the limit — 45 minutes of active cooking on weeknights and 90 on weekends by default — and every recipe is designed to fit, with active and total time shown up front. Bonus prep or a Prep Day takes more off.

Do I need to be a good cook?

No. Choose beginner, home cook, confident or chef. Beginners get fewer components and more guidance; confident cooks get the fun stuff. Every step has timers and chef's notes that explain the why.

What equipment do I need?

A sharp knife, a board, a large skillet, a saucepan, a sheet pan and an oven cover almost everything. Tap the rest of your kit in a quick visual picker — air fryer, pressure cooker, Dutch oven, blender, sous-vide — and we'll put it to work. We won't plan around gear you don't own.

Is there an app? Does it work on my computer?

Gastroque runs in your browser on laptop, desktop, tablet and phone. Plan the week on a big screen — week grid, recipe and list side by side — then shop and cook from your phone. Add it to your home screen for an offline grocery list and timers; native iOS and Android apps are in Labs.

Allergies, diets & Split Plates

How do you handle allergies?

Each diner's allergies and intolerances are hard rules. Mark one strict and we keep the allergen and its common hidden sources — including products that “may contain” it — off everyone's plate that night, and audit every recipe before you see it. AI can still make mistakes and products change — always read labels, and follow your allergist's advice for severe allergies.

One of us is vegetarian and one isn't. Do I cook two dinners?

No — that's what Split Plates is for. You cook one dish with a shared base and finish each plate differently: Cajun chicken for one, blackened mushrooms for the other. One list, mostly one pot.

What if our diets really conflict?

Each diner has their own diet, allergies and dislikes. Gastroque looks for dishes with a shared core and splits only where it must; when nothing can be shared on a night, it plans a dish that fits everyone's rules.

Does it work for kids and picky eaters?

Yes. Add kids by first name and age group; Gastroque sizes their portions, keeps their plates as mild as you like, and learns from “Kids loved it.” Dislikes are per person — mushrooms, cilantro, anything.

Is there nutrition information?

Plus shows estimated nutrition per serving; Pro adds macro targets per diner. These are estimates from standard ingredient data, not medical or dietary advice.

Groceries, Pantry & prep

How much will groceries cost?

It depends on your store, your household and the budget you set. Gastroque plans to that budget, shares ingredients across the week and uses up what you have, which helps cut waste. Pro adds estimated prices to your list.

Which grocery stores do you support?

All of them. Your list is sorted by standard aisles, so it works wherever you shop. Sending your list straight to a store cart is on the way — see Send to Instacart and Grocery Autopilot in Labs.

How does Pantry Memory work?

What you buy goes into your Pantry when you finish shopping. When you mark a meal cooked, we subtract what it used and add any leftovers. Staples like oil and salt are tracked as Full, Half, Low or Out. A 30-second Pantry Check-in before each week fixes anything we got wrong — it's an estimate, and you're in charge.

What if I skip a night or eat out?

Mark it skipped. The ingredients stay in your Pantry and next week uses the perishables first. Or swap it for something quicker.

Do you support metric and other countries?

Switch between US and metric units anytime. At launch, recipes are written in English and tuned for ingredients in the US. Prices are in US dollars; applicable taxes are calculated at checkout.

The food

Is it really restaurant-level?

Honestly? It's restaurant technique, written for a home kitchen and a weeknight — a proper pan sauce, a hard sear, acid in the right place. Turn the Ambition Level up when you want to show off.

Gastroque isn't affiliated with Michelin or the MICHELIN Guide.

Do you plan breakfast and lunch?

Plus plans dinners and can turn leftovers into next-day lunches. Pro plans up to 21 meals a week: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Where do the recipes come from?

Gastroque's AI chef develops each recipe for your table, following a culinary style guide and food-safety rules, and checks it before you see it. Some recipes are published anonymously to the Gastroque Library for everyone to cook.

Account & privacy

How does the free trial work?

Plus and Pro start with a 7-day free trial. No payment needed during early access.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes, in Settings → Billing. You keep your plan until the end of the period you've paid for; your recipes, ratings and favorites stay with you on Free.

Can my partner use it too?

Yes. Invite a co-cook — 1 on Plus, up to 4 on Pro — to share the plan, grocery list and pantry. One subscription covers the household.

Is my data private?

Yes. We never sell your data or show ads. Your household details are used to plan your meals and are sent to our AI provider only to create your recipes. Export or delete everything anytime in Settings → Privacy.

Plans & billing

Why do you need a card for the trial?

During early access we don't: no payment is needed to start a trial. When payments open, a card will keep the trial for real people, and you won't be charged during the 7 days.

Will you remind me before I'm charged?

Yes — we email you 3 days before your trial ends, with a one-click link to manage or cancel.

Can I switch between Plus and Pro?

Anytime in Settings → Billing. Upgrades take effect immediately (you're charged the prorated difference); downgrades take effect at your next renewal.

Monthly or annual — can I change later?

Yes. Switching to annual takes effect right away with credit for unused time; switching to monthly starts at your next renewal.

What happens if I cancel?

You keep everything until the end of your paid period, then move to Free. Your recipes, ratings, favorites and history stay in your account.

Do you offer refunds?

Trials are free — cancel before the trial ends and you're never charged. Annual plans can be refunded in full within 14 days of any annual charge (first year or renewal); your plan then moves to Taster right away. Monthly plans aren't refunded for partial months — you keep your plan until the end of the month you paid for — but if a renewal surprised you, contact us within 7 days and, if you haven't generated new recipes since, we'll refund it. Billing mistakes are always refunded. Where local law gives you more (for example the EU/UK 14-day withdrawal right), that applies.

Which payment methods do you take?

Major credit and debit cards, plus Apple Pay, Google Pay and Link where available — processed securely by Stripe.

Are taxes included?

Prices are shown in USD before tax. Where sales tax or VAT applies, it's calculated at checkout.

Does one subscription cover my household?

Yes. The household owner pays; co-cooks (1 on Plus, up to 4 on Pro) share the plan at no extra cost.

Is there a referral program?

Yes — give a month, get a month. Share your link from Settings → Billing; when your friend's first payment goes through after their trial, you both get a month free (as a credit on yearly plans). Up to 12 free months a year.

What does “fair use” mean on Pro swaps?

60 swaps a week is far more than a typical week needs; the limit exists to prevent automated abuse.

Accessibility

Last updated

Gastroque is built for everyone who cooks — on a laptop, a tablet or a phone propped against the flour jar. We design and test against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.

  • Every control works with a keyboard, with a visible focus ring; desktop shortcuts are listed behind the ? key.
  • Screen readers get real headings, labels and live announcements — timers announce at 1 minute left and when they finish, not every second.
  • Diet and allergy information always pairs an icon with text. Colour is never the only signal.
  • Animations respect your device's reduced-motion setting, and auto-playing motion has a pause control.
  • Touch targets are at least 44 × 44 px, and Cook Mode offers larger step text.
  • Text contrast meets AA in both light and dark themes.

We're still improving. If something gets in your way, tell us and we'll fix it or find you a workaround.

Email accessibility@gastroque.com with the page and what happened.

Security & vulnerability disclosure

Last updated

Your table's details deserve care. Gastroque keeps household data separated by row-level security, encrypts it in transit and at rest, and never sees your full card number (payments are handled by Stripe). If you've found a security issue, we want to hear from you.

Report a vulnerability to security@gastroque.com (see also security.txt).
